Mr. Netanyahu, who made the announcement on social media, had previously called Al Jazeera a “Hamas mouthpiece” and said he would close it. Israeli lawmakers passed a bill last month allowing the government to temporarily close foreign media outlets that Mr. Netanyahu determined were undermining the country’s national security. “The government under my leadership has decided unanimously: The incitement channel Al Jazeera will be shut down in Israel,” Mr. Netanyahu said on X, formerly Twitter. A New York federal jury on Thursday convicted a Puerto Rico man of a $110 million scheme that was the Department of Justice's first-ever cryptocurrency open-market manipulation case, prosecutors said. The man, 28-year-old Avraham Eisenberg of San Juan, faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison for the charges of wire fraud, commodities fraud, and commodities manipulation. Prosecutors said Eisenberg fraudulently obtained about $110 million worth of cryptocurrency from the Mango Markets exchange and its customers by artificially and dramatically driving up the price of both futures contracts and the MNGO crypto token, and then borrowing cryptocurrency based on the value of the inflated assets. "When Eisenberg borrowed and withdrew this cryptocurrency, he had no intention of repaying the borrowed funds but rather intended to steal those funds," the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement when he was indicted in February 2023.

Danny Brom, director of METIV: The Israel Psychotrauma Center, said some will need medical treatment but others will not. Since the latest round of releases began on Friday, with Israel releasing some jailed Palestinians in exchange, the freed hostages have been kept away from the media. Most of the 240 hostages that Israel says were seized on Oct. 7 are still in captivity. Hamas portrays the treatment of hostages as humane, and says it has treated the hostages in accordance with Islamic teachings to preserve their lives and wellbeing. Officials at Israeli hospitals say hostages experienced poor nutritional health, and many with chronic diseases were denied medical treatment, causing serious health problems.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — A truce between Israel and Hamas entered its fifth day on Tuesday, with the militant group promising to release more civilian hostages to delay the expected resumption of the war and Israel under growing pressure to spare Palestinian civilians when the fighting resumes. The sides agreed to extend their truce through Wednesday, with another two planned exchanges of militant-held hostages for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel. Hamas and other militants are still holding about 160 people, out of the 240 seized in their Oct. 7 assault into southern Israel that ignited the war. Most of the hostages freed so far have appeared to be physically well. The hostages freed from Gaza have mostly stayed out of the public eye, but details of their captivity have started to emerge.

The Israeli Prime Minister's office confirmed that 17 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza were released on Sunday, including four-year-old Israeli-American Abigail Mor Edan. The Prime Minister's office said that 14 of the individuals were Israeli citizens, while the other three were foreign nationals. Fifty Hamas hostages are due to be freed over the four days under the terms of an agreement between Israel and Hamas. In the first two days of the temporary cease-fire, 24 hostages were released from Gaza in exchange for 39 Palestinian prisoners. There is a clause within the current Israel-Hamas agreement that would extend the military pause if Hamas agrees to release additional hostages beyond the initial 50.

The freed hostages have not spoken directly to the news media and most are still being treated in private areas of Israeli hospitals. The rabbis came from Israel and Ukraine, from Azerbaijan and France, from Thailand and farther still, as thousands of Jews filed into a graveyard in Queens under a sea of black hats. The roughly 6,500 orthodox rabbis, in New York City for an annual conference, arrived in a city convulsed by protests over the war between Israel and Hamas. “We are losing everything we have,” Rabbi Avraham Wolff, the chief Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi of Odesa, Ukraine, said in Hebrew. And just before he left for New York, Russian rockets fell on Odesa. “For them I have to be strong.”He added, “If I have to cry, I do it under my blankets.”

I spent the day waiting for news from my family in Israel. I wake up each morning only to remember again my family is being held hostage by terrorists. So maybe you can imagine my surprise the first time I heard my Israeli family called “white colonizers.” When did we become white? Everyone in my large extended family has mobilized alongside me, demanding the safe return of our loved ones and of all the hostages. We’ve been told by the Israel Defense Forces that my family is alive in Gaza, and for now, this gives us a glimmer of hope.

Ohad Munder-Zichri is believed to be a hostage, along with his mother and grandparents, held by Hamas. Ohad has not been seen since Hamas militants attacked the kibbutz of Nir Oz where he was visiting. Ohad's family members spoke with CNN about the 9-year-old and were asked what they'd say to those who apparently have him captive. For Zichri, Ohad's father, it was just another in a series of agonizing days, with anxiety consuming his every moment. Zichri was awaiting Ohad and his mom's return on October 7 when he heard air-raid sirens warning of incoming rockets.

Friday services, highlighted by the main weekly prayers for Muslims and the start of the Jewish Sabbath at sundown, were the first since the massacre. Larry Mead, vice president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, said, "We are seeing the Jewish community is very apprehensive. "We're not going to cancel Shabbat," said Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis. "And meanwhile, hundreds of innocent Palestinians are also losing their lives, trapped in Gaza as the war is just beginning." Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Chicago CAIR chapter, said on Facebook he had also been talking with Jewish counterparts in the region, and took hope in the connections made.
